Meeting with the construction sector
On January 27, 2016 EYE project organized a meeting with relevant stakeholders to discuss the finding of the report “Market assessment of the construction sector: employment prospects for youth”. More than 40 representatives of construction companies, association, architects, and skills providers have given their contribution of having relevant activities related to skills provision within construction sector.
The construction sector has served as one of the main pillars of Kosovo’s economy and despite challenges it has continued to expand even during the global financial crisis that effected Kosovo too couple of years ago.
With a share of 9.5%, the construction sector was the 4th biggest employer in Kosovo in 2014, employing around 39,000 people. Although the employment share of the construction sector among all other sectors decreased in 2014, and compared to the previous year which moved from 11.4% to 9.5%, the total number of employees increased by 10,000.In addition, the rule of law and corruption were also highlighted as negative factors that must improve for the sector to grow in the future.
EYE will continue to facilitate market changes in construction sector by focusing more on the development of vocational skills and further improve communication mechanism between skill providers and businesses.
